Today, TIME revealed its annual list of the Best Inventions, which features 200 extraordinary innovations changing our lives.
To compile the list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields — such as the electric vehicle industry, green energy, and the metaverse. TIME then evaluated each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
Of the new list, TIME’s editors write: “The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions, including life-mapping artificial intelligence, diamonds made from excess carbon in the air, and the most powerful telescope ever — that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible.”
A productivity powerhouse
Logi Dock, an all-in-one docking station with meeting controls and speakerphone, is a winner in the productivity category.
As 77% of Americans believe that desk clutter affects their productivity, Logi Dock is designed to declutter the desktop by providing a single connection point for desktop devices. Users can join Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and other video conferences with one touch, mute their audio and video, listen to music, and connect their peripherals.
“Working from home can have its ups and downs, but creating a clean, pleasing atmosphere is clutch for most of us sitting at a desk. With a helpful array of ports and inputs, the Logi Dock not only helped me organize and distill the many annoying wires from my peripherals down to just one (yes, one), but it also made hopping on my video calls a cinch,” says CNN Underscored editor Tobey Grumet.
Born from the pandemic for a hybrid future of work
“Logi Dock is the innovation that no one asked for, but everyone needs,” says Scott Wharton, GM of Logitech B2B. “When the pandemic hit, we spent an incredible amount of time with our end users to understand their needs and pain points in a work-from-home world. The result was Logi Dock. Now, as hybrid and remote work becomes the norm, Logi Dock not only dramatically improves the work-from-home experience for employees, but makes it easier for IT managers who are overwhelmed by provisioning, troubleshooting, and managing thousands of different setups from afar.”
The first of its kind in the market, the invention of Logi Dock carved out a new category: collaboration docks. In a hybrid world of work, collaboration docks are quickly becoming the home office necessity that people can’t live or work without.
