Challenge

Reception in learning institute

Greenwood High School

Dedicated to instilling a growth mindset in all students and preparing them for post-secondary education opportunities, Greenwood proudly offers 25 different student organizations and more than 100 AP & Dual-Credit Classes through a robust combination of On-Campus, Online and Off-campus offerings.

Sharing this same commitment and passion, Business Department Head and Business Educator, Natalie Dyer, strives to create dynamic courses and lessons that engage students in future-ready skills and give them opportunities to learn from real-world business professionals. However,  when it came to securing guest speakers for her classes, she was limited to hosting in-person visits only. This greatly restricted the number of speakers, was not optimal for online classes and made it difficult for students to have an individual experience with the speaker.

Solution

As Co-Advisor of Greenwood’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club and as a Professional Communication and Speech Educator, Natalie realized a need for a tech solution that would enable all students to meet with more business leaders virtually - while also building their communication and overall professionalism.

To address this need, Natalie incorporated Logitech’s C920E Business Webcam in her classroom’s student workstations. The 1:1 webcam setup allowed for students to have an individual, more personalized experience with industry professionals which is important for student growth.

“The Logitech C920E surpasses the audio and visual quality of a traditional Chromebook or laptop. These webcam devices give my students real-world experience with advanced business-industry hardware,” said Natalie Dyer.

It also includes dual integrated omnidirectional mics to capture your voice from up to one meter away so conversations always sound natural and clear.

C920e is Certified for Zoom®, Google Meet® and compatible with Microsoft Teams® and other popular video conferencing apps.

Results

With Logitech’s C920E webcams, Natalie was able to engage in-class and online students in more meetings and virtual field trips with members of the business community. Students are able to see these professionals in their real business settings, learn about their career paths, get advice and see examples of their work (graphic design, multimedia projects, etc). They can also display their faces during live Zoom or Google Meets and participate in more collaborative discussions.

“It is a challenge to find professionals willing to give up a portion of their day to speak to students about their career experiences and responsibilities,” said Natalie. “With the virtual option now available, it takes less time for guests to attend virtual meetings and geography is no longer an issue.”

“One of our meetings was with a college counselor from Western Kentucky University. He discussed with students opportunities for financial aid and scholarships, and then explained a senior checklist for students planning to attend college,” said Natalie Dyer.

In her Business Communications classes, students are now able to record professional-quality videos of themselves for their speaking assignments. This allows them to better evaluate critical aspects of effective communication such as body language, pacing, tone, eye contact and more. Plus, they can now share on-screen presentations during their speeches, which was not possible before when using their phones.

“When you give students nice things, they respect it more. They act differently in a setting that feels more professional,” said Dyer.

With the Logitech C920E webcams, Natalie was able to improve classroom equity, expand access to the business community, help students collaborate in more authentic ways, and further strengthen their communication skills.
