THINKING END-TO-END

We evaluate potential environmental impacts at every stage of product development—from material and design choices, to manufacturing, to customer satisfaction and end-of-life recycling.

Climate Action

We are designing for sustainability to reduce carbon impact across our value chain. By 2030, we will reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions to near zero and reduce our Scope 3 emissions by more than 50%.

Design for Sustainability

DESIGN FOR SUSTAINABILITY

We realize that the biggest opportunities to reduce environmental impact arise early in the design process when key decisions about a product are made.

Our goal is to create great product experiences that improve people's lives. For us, this means considering sustainability as part of every design decision. Truly sustainable design considers environmental and social impacts from the moment raw materials are sourced right through to the end-of-life of a product.

Carbon Clarity

We are aware of the urgent need to take climate action. By being open and transparent about our impact, we believe we can drive better design decisions in our own teams and more informed purchasing decisions among our consumers.

In 2020, we became the first consumer electronics company to commit to providing carbon impact labels on product packaging across our portfolio. We are inviting other companies to join us in driving positive change by providing carbon impact labels on their products. It will take an industry-wide effort to truly make a difference.

NEXT LIFE PLASTICS

We have an established recycled plastic program which promotes the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic as an alternative to virgin plastic in our devices. We use PCR plastic to give a second life to end-of-life plastic and help reduce our carbon footprint. We are applying PCR at scale across the company, targeting our largest product portfolios for the most impactful carbon reduction.

CIRCULARITY

Our ambition is to empower consumers to extend the life of electronic devices, components, and materials. We finance recycling worldwide and we are working to innovate and develop more circular production and consumption systems, to meet the growing consumer demand for electronics, while also addressing the need to conserve natural resources, biodiversity, and carbon sinks.

Water

Water is essential in hardware manufacturing for cleaning components and cooling machinery. Although our facility uses minimal water, due to our focus on assembly and testing, significant water use occurs in certain areas of our supply chain, which we are committed to addressing. Effective water management minimizes waste and reduces our environmental footprint, conserving water and preserving ecosystems. This is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our operations amid global water scarcity concerns.

BIODIVERSITY

We recognize the essential need to safeguard biodiversity as one of the critical Earth system processes that is essential for continued human development.

We also believe biodiversity conservation is an important part of climate action and we support global efforts to halt and reverse deforestation and understand biodiversity impacts.

We believe we can help to lead the way by considering the full life-cycle impact of our operations and activities and by developing program to reduce negative impacts on biodiversity and create positive change.

RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION

Our governance framework for responsible manufacturing is founded on our commitment to legal compliance, the RBA Code of Conduct and audit compliance and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 international good practice. Because a significant proportion of our revenue comes from the products that we produce at our facility, we constantly challenge ourselves to take out waste and non-value-added steps at our production facility to minimize our environmental impact.

TARGETED SUBSTANCES

Manufacturing of computer peripherals and electronic devices requires a diverse mix of hundreds of parts, materials, and components. The materials we use in our products are produced by a supply chain that extends across the world.

We work with our suppliers to review material specifications, test products and components, and identify potential risks to human health or the environment across the full life-cycle of our products. We consider environmental impacts beyond our sourcing and manufacturing operations, considering typical end-of-life scenarios.
